Hi y'all,
I have just returned from Phoenix, AZ after a 12 hour drive, yuck. Oh my goodness, y'all I thought Texas was hot, but Arizona is HOT. It was nice to spend some time with grandparents, but they don't have WiFi so I am behind in my blog reading : (
During my
time in Arizona, I was haunted by the classroom theme issue. I was determined not to
pick a classroom theme. I really wanted to stick with primary colors and throw
in some polka dots and stripes.
But, I couldn’t resist.
All of the kinder
teachers on my team have the cutest classroom themes and the kids (and other
teachers) recognize the rooms based on the theme. So, I decided that I needed to pick one
specific theme. I thought about owls; have you seen all of the cute owl stuff out
right now? It is all so precious, but, none of it fit right with my primary
colors. I also thought about chameleons or crayons or western or …
THEN, it
came to me..
CIRCUS/CARNIVAL THEME!
It fits perfectly with my primary colors and
polka dots and stripes.
ANNNNDDDD, I have a popcorn word wall in my classroom
so it all goes together perfectly. I have been pinning and google-ing like
crazy to find all of the perfect decorations and ideas. I am so excited that I
have committed to a classroom theme, whew!
What theme is your classroom? Do you change themes every year? Does anyone else happen to be doing a circus/carnival theme?
I can't wait to hear your theme ideas and catch up on my blog reading!
I hope you have a relaxing and fun Fourth of July!

That sounds like an adorable theme! I usually do a pirate theme every year. I have really grown to love it & my students are crazy about it. Plus I think I have too much $$ invested in it to even think about doing another theme! :)

Learning Is Something to Treasure
I'm a Texas girl who lives in Tennessee. My classroom theme is western! I love it! I have bandanas, cowboys, cowboy hats, boots, etc everywhere. It's adorable! And it's why I was drawn to your website! Yee Haw!
ReplyDeleteOne of the teachers in my hallway as a western room. It is super cute! If you couldn't tell I love the western theme too, hehe.

How cute. I have a bee themed room with my color scheme being yellow and blue. I don't have tons of bee stuff, but I like having a common theme when it comes to choosing things like name tags, folders, helper names, etc.

A few years ago, one of my Kindergarten teammates did a circus theme. It was adorable! I just do lots of bright colors!

Challenges Make Life Interesting
I feel like I just read my own thoughts this time last year! I always went with primary colors and polka dots and decided I had to join the bandwagon... so I chose circus/carnival and LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED it! So many cute things "we're nuts about..." "we don't clown around in..." Have fun with it!

I'm so glad someone thinks like me. Thanks so much for great ideas. I love your blog!
Deletelast year, i started teaching prek. my co-teacher uses bears in her classroom, and said that i needed to choose a bear too. well, i thought about it all summer and decided to use panda bears. last year, my theme was panda-monium in prek {same name as my blog}. this year, my theme is panda-monium at sea! i get to use my pandas and take them out to the ocean this year. i'm really glad i chose pandas because using "panda-monium" really lends itself to many different theme pairings.
ReplyDeleteBears! How cute! We do a little bear unit when we teach the letter B. I am so excited!
DeleteI do a theme a month kind of thing, seems a bit crazy I know. Each month I read one of the MAgic School Bus books and we create a classroom theme based on that book. The first month of school I will do the decorations and from then on as a class we will do the work. Did this last spring and the kids loved it, especially when I dressed up as Ms. Frizzle.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I'm sure the kids LOVE it! I love that you include the kids in the work. I think it's so important to include the kids in decorating and creating a sense of ownership.
DeleteHappy International Blog-Hopping Day! I've got two awards for your terrific blog. Just hop on over to check them out.

ReplyDeleteI have had frogs for many many years. I changed to sea life one year but ended up back at frogs! Nearly our entire team has a theme! It isn't planned really but it is fun and it does help when you need some student helpers to run erands! Please take this to the ladybug room! :) Have fun! We look forward to your pictures!
ReplyDeleteAwe frogs are so cute! Do you have a frog as a classroom pet by chance? I am trying to think of a fun (and easy) class pet and a frog may be a possibility haha.
DeleteI am a first year teacher and I am sooo excited about the theme that I have chosen for my fourth grade classroom. I have chosen a beach theme since we live here in Florida. I feel that I have gone all out and cannot wait to get in the classroom and beginning setting it up. The only problem that I have is that I don't have a catchy phrase to go with my theme. Does anyone have any ideas that they would like to share? BTW....I love your blog and have gotten many wonderful ideas from this page.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to have a first year teaching friend. I love the beach theme idea! I am trying to think of some catchy phrases. Surfing into Fourth Grade? Catch the Wave in Fourth Grade? Fourth Grade's a Ball (with beach balls)? Hmmm...I will be thinking!
DeleteHey! Just found your blog, I'm a fellow Texan teacher and my blog has a similiar name! :) Great minds think alike! I do a beach theme in my classroom (because I'm in San Antonio, nowhere near a beach.)I want the kids to look forward to coming every day, I like my theme because it's fun, cheerful and different. I also love the blues and greens...it's very calming. Stop by my blog, I'm gonna go join your followers now.
